WHAT HINDERS CREATIVITY?
For independent bands, arranging an appropriate time and space for in-person rehearsal is never easy. Devoid of satisfactory practice opportunities, many bands become demotivated and thus perished, leaving their creative potentials buried.
As the drummer in a rock band, I realized that my team struggled to secure a stable room for rehearsal and coordinate the practice when members are not together, imposing great challenges for subsequent formal studio recording session and performance.

Platforms like Ableton Live and FL Studio are becoming increasingly popular, with over 4 million users collectively. The market for digital audio workstations (DAWs) and other music creation software has seen a 15% annual growth rate. These tools lower the barriers to music production, allowing more individuals to create and distribute original music. Traditional auditory device companies like Harman and Sony are also expanding investment in sound production products.

WHAT MAKES REHEARSAL CHALLENGING?
Since players of different instruments may face distinct challenges during practice, I conducted user interview with subjects specializing in different instruments. All of them had some previous collaborative music creation experience.
I designed interview questions to specifically understand how individual musicians feel about in-person rehearsals, discover the challenges they face when practicing alone, and explore their needs for managing their original music pieces.

WIREFRAME AND TASK ANALYSIS

DESIGN SYSTEM
Music creation and rehearsal are inspiration-driven, sometimes even requiring the infusion of magic. Stagy adopted tropical indigo and resolution blue as a contrasting pair of primary colors, reminiscent of the excitement of a momentary whim.

INTERACTIVE PROTOTYPE
Leveraging latency reduction techniques and high-quality audio recording, Stagy enables musicians to practice with actual instruments together online. They are empowered to receive immediate feedback from team members and continually update their progress for each song in their personalized library, including every comment made and every demo recorded.
